This might be one of the most exciting moments I have had during the last couple of months of my blogging journey! As a stationery-planner girl I love all things paper, but what I enjoy most of all is being able to be involved in something even greater. A longtime sister-friend (we all have one or two of those great ladies in our life…our “YA-YA Sisters”) brought this wonderful treasure into my world a month ago & I my heart is just jumping for joy to share it with you.
There is an amazing shop called That Grace Restored, based out of Atlanta, that specializes in crafting beautiful handmade journals, paper products and letterpress printing. Their products begin as unwanted scrap papers then are transformed into stunning journals and stationery. (Honestly, a stationery-lover’s dream!) However, what makes this shop even more remarkable is what drives That Grace Restored to create such treasures. The items that this shop sells are each handmade by women who, sadly, have been exploited in the commercial sex industry. That Grace Restored works alongside each of these amazing women to create a fine-quality handmade product while providing opportunities to build self-sufficiency, vocational training and employment.
When my dear friend shared the story of That Grace Restored I knew I wanted to play a part in this opportunity to create change. Being that I love & collect all things journal related I knew I wanted to jump in. I decided to order the Handbound Leather Journal with Handmade Paper. Honestly, I have purchased many journals in my lifetime, but this one is by far my favorite. The soft buttery leather wrapped around those beautiful handmade pages truly made me swoon. The real leather smell (doesn’t everyone enjoy that scent?!?) was a winner for me. The beautifully imperfect handmade pages were each unique in their own way….not one the same, but the pages all fit nicely together. The intricate leather stitching on the binding of the journal was a perfect touch & made me think about the time and effort that was put into perfecting this piece of art.
I also purchased the Red Chevron Pattern Hardback Journal with Handmade Paper. Another beautifully handmade journal with pages upon pages of paper each telling their own story in their pattern & edging. (If you have ever held, written on or ran your hand across true handmade paper you know what I am talking about. All LOVE!)
Along with the chevron journal my last purchase was a 10 sheet pack of Loose Leaf Handmade Paper. The paper came wrapped in a thin twine and, honestly, from this stationery-girl, too pretty to even touch. Each page had the enjoyable feel of handmade paper and would make a beautiful keepsake when sent to someone special.
Along with these journal & paper goodies That Grace Restored also offers monthly journal making classes in the Atlanta area. I am crossing my fingers and hoping that this summer I can make it down to one of these classes. I would love to learn from these amazing ladies how to create such a thing of beauty!
If you love to journal, make lists, draw, craft or enjoy gifting journals then this is a shop you must visit. You can find That Grace Restored on their website or here at their Etsy shop. As a Mother, a Woman, and a Friend I was driven to That Grace Restored’s mission to help these beautiful women “reach self-sufficiency and renewed personal dignity”.
When you visit their website under “Artisan’s” there is an entire section dedicated to the stories of these crafters. “Some of the paper has imperfections but it’s still useful. You’re not worthless if you have imperfections”, quote taken from one the women on That Grace Restored’s website. I found these words touching because it reminded me of the beautiful imperfections of each handmade page in my journal, but when those pages are bound together and loving words caress & heal they have now become a thing of worth and value.
I greatly appreciate you stopping by A.I.M. today, but please take a moment and hop on over to That Grace Restored and learn more about their shop or order a beautiful journal or stationery for yourself or family/friends.
